Gentoo Linux 12.0 has been released

The 12.0 version of Gentoo Linux has been released on 02 Jan,2012. Originally Gentoo is aimed towards the developers and networks professionals. It originated in USA and it is independent Linux operating system. Unlike other Linux it contain poratge- a package management system which provides dependencies, fine-grained package management, system profile, virtual package and many more.




The LiveCD of Gentoo contain the following features.

  • KDE 4.7.4
  • GNOME 3.2.1
  • Xfce 4.8
  • Fluxbox 1.3.2
  • Firefox 9.0
  • LibreOffice 3.4.99.2

  • Amarok 2.5
  • VLC 1.1.13
  • Chromium 16.0
It also support many architectures like i486, i586, i686, x86_64, alpha, arm, hppa, mips, powerpc, spark64. Due to the wide range of architecture and desktop manager like KDE, GNOME, Xfce, Fluxbox, Blackbox, AfterStep, LXDE, Openbox, Wmaker, IceWM, the Gentoo Linux is used by many permanent user and became more famous.

    1. gentoo is mainly for developers and network associates where as ubuntu is more precise about user friendliness.
